The Koneko might be closed, but there's lights on in the workroom of the shop. Just off screen, a low voice hums off key, soft scraping noises and the low whine of a dog marring the offset tune. Off to the side of the table lay several colorful flowers; purple hyacinth and amaranth, plus a single red carnation tossed on top of the pile along with some assorted greenery. Every now and again, a hand moved into sight and deftly snatches up a stem here and there, shifting through the stems to find the right one.

[The video tilts again and Mara's tired-looking face comes into view.]

Oh, it is on. I thought it was just the audio... [She looks down at her arm and stubs out her cigarette as she sets the device by the ashtray. She walks away as she speaks, trying to keep her tone light.]

Those were some beautiful flowers you were working with.

They'll be better when I finish with them.

What are you doing with them?

[She comes back into view with a towel pressed against her arm, wiping the blood away before setting it aside and grabbing her cigarettes again.]

... they're an arrangement for someone.

I think they'll be well-received.

[She takes a drag and tilts her head a little.]

Isn't it after hours?

You think so?

... yeah, but I wanted to come down and mess around a little. I think better when my hands are busy and I'm not in the mood to spar.

I do.

[She watches for a minute before speaking again.]

I'm not disturbing you am I?

... no. I'm glad to hear from you, actually.

You... you are?

[She sounds and looks a little skeptical... and a little hopeful.]

... yeah. I am. I've been worried about you.

I'm alright... [It's a lie, she's not alright, not when her nightmares are back with a vengeance and she doesn't have anyone to curl up against at night.]

I've been worried about you, too.

... I hope to God you're more alright than I am.

Why?

Things were... hard the last time we talked. [She's aware of the understatement.]

Yeah, things were a little... strained the last time we talked.

[Taking a drag on her cigarette, she pulls on of her knees up under her chin.]

I hurt you.

It's... okay. I know you're not comfortable trusting people.

No, it isn't. [She's reluctant to speak again.] You need... you deserve someone who can trust you completely.

I... care about you, I care a great deal... [Those tears are back.] But the last time I trusted someone completely... he wasn't who I thought he was. [She twitches.] And there was someone here, too.

... Garrett and Dorian, right?

... trust me, I understand. I've never had a relationship... work out.

Yes. Garrett and Dorian.

[She doesn't dare sound hopeful as she looks into the device at him.]

Then... what? Do you still... want me?

... Mara, I need to know how you see me. What you think of me.

[There's a long pause as she considers how to put this into words and when she does, she's uncharacteristically shy.]

I think you're the best thing that's happened to me in a very, very long time. And I'm... scared that I'm losing that.

I feel the same way.

[She reaches out and runs a finger alongside the screen, as if she wishes it were his face.]

Then what can we do? I can't... Ken, I don't know how to change what I'm afraid of, but if I could, I would.

... we'll take our time. Figure it out. Together.

... if that's what you want. Maybe all it needs is time.

[Smiling softly, she wipes away another tear.]

I do want. I want you very much. I miss you.
